All product image guides Shopify product image size

Size the file for the place it will appear.

A product-page image, collection card, and mobile gallery can display the same file differently. Start with Shopify’s upload limits, pick a consistent framing pattern, and inspect your own theme before deciding a file is ready.

What this shows

Measure the file, then preview the store.

The square bottle result gives you a concrete pixel count for the worksheet. Whether it looks sharp or crops well depends on your theme and display size. Enlarging the file cannot prove that missing label detail has become accurate.

Live Fayvoro resultThe live scene is 1024 × 1024 pixels. It is a demonstration file, not a Shopify theme preview, a 2048-pixel export, or proof of storefront performance.

02 / A PRACTICAL WORKFLOWSTART WITH YOUR PHOTO
01

Separate an upload limit from a preferred size

Shopify lists product and collection images up to 5000 × 5000 pixels or 25 megapixels, with files smaller than 20 MB. Its guide says 2048 × 2048 usually works well for square product photos; that is a recommendation, not the size of every image slot.

Read the downloaded file’s actual width, height, and bytes. If an editor changes the size, check the new file again. A supported upload can still be blurry, poorly framed, or inaccurate, so treat file compatibility and product review as separate decisions.

Describe what the view adds — Use image-role examples to write meaningful alternative text.

Inspect the gallery on a narrow screen — Make detail and variant views accessible without hiding them behind an unclear interaction.

02

Keep collection framing consistent

Shopify recommends consistent featured-image aspect ratios for products shown side by side. The exact storefront display depends on the theme, and its image service creates different versions for different uses.

Choose one featured-image pattern, then preview a short row containing a tall item, a wide item, and a small item. Check whether their apparent sizes and margins feel consistent. Do not stretch a bottle or bag to match a card. Preserve the original proportions and use the theme’s crop settings or a separate editor when you need another canvas.

Decide whether more pixels will help — Compare resizing, upscaling and a new real capture before choosing a larger file.

03

Plan a pixel budget before generating

Enter a target rendered width and pixel-density allowance below to compare them with the source width. This is a planning calculation, not a scan of your theme or a promise of perceived sharpness. Use the gallery, collection card, and any zoom view as separate checks.

Fayvoro offers 1:1, 4:5, and 9:16 generation formats with the available resolution options shown in the studio. Confirm the actual downloaded dimensions before upload. Keep factual front, detail, and variant photos in the gallery, then add a scene only after its product details and theme crop pass review.

Match each option to the right photo — Test the selected option, image and cart against a real SKU mapping.

Pixel budget worksheet

Compare file pixels
with your display plan.

Enter dimensions from your actual file and the width you expect in the theme. A density allowance of 2× budgets two file pixels per display pixel; it is your planning choice, not a Shopify requirement or a sharpness guarantee.

Enter positive whole-pixel dimensions, a file size, and a rendered width to compare. This worksheet reads your numbers only.

Limits above follow Shopify’s product-media guide checked on 3 October 2026. Verify the actual upload, gallery, mobile crop, and zoom view in your theme. This tool does not resize, compress, upload, or inspect an image.
Direction to try

A useful starting note.

Use this as a starting point, then adjust it for your own product. No prompt can guarantee exact product details.

Use my uploaded product photo as the reference for one secondary product-page image. Keep the whole item centered on a calm surface with clear edges and generous room for the theme crop. Avoid added text or extra products.
Before you publish

Check the details.

  • The downloaded file’s real dimensions and size are recorded.
  • Featured-image ratios are consistent across the collection.
  • Desktop and mobile gallery crops keep the important product details.
  • The generated SKU still matches the original, with accurate real photos retained.
Common questions

A few things to know.

Is 2048 × 2048 mandatory for Shopify?

No. Shopify recommends it for square product photos and separately states upload limits. The appropriate file also depends on your actual theme and image placement.

Does selecting 2K guarantee a Shopify-ready file?

No. Verify the exported width, height, file size, visual detail, and theme crop. The resolution label alone is not a storefront check.

Does this worksheet resize or upload my image?

No. It compares the numbers you enter. Use your editor and Shopify admin for the actual export, upload, and storefront preview.
