All product image guides Transparent product images

Choose what should be behind the product.

A transparent cutout is a reusable layer; a white-background photo and a finished room scene already contain a background. Decide which deliverable your design needs before choosing the file format or image tool.

What this shows

A new background is already part of the image.

The generated room belongs to the output pixels. Placing that JPEG over a colored design will not reveal the color behind the bottle. Use a dedicated masking workflow when you need an isolated product layer.

02 / A PRACTICAL WORKFLOWSTART WITH YOUR PHOTO
01

Specify the deliverable before editing

Choose a transparent layer when a designer needs to place the exact item onto several canvases. Choose a flattened white-background image when the destination expects a finished product photograph on white. Choose a scene when lighting, surface, and surroundings should be part of one finished composition.

A white area is still an opaque area. Converting a JPEG to PNG changes its format but does not remove its background. PNG supports an alpha channel, yet a PNG can also be fully opaque; the extension alone does not prove transparency.

Choose a method for the product edge — Check whether a vector path, mask or finished scene fits the required deliverable.

White on White Product Photography — Plan white product photographs with controlled background brightness, readable contours and preserved surface detail.

02

Inspect edges on more than one background

Open the exported cutout in an editor that shows transparency, then place it over both a light and a dark temporary layer. Look for bright fringes, lost handles, damaged holes, and thin edges. Keep this preview separate from the file you deliver so the diagnostic background is not accidentally flattened into the export.

For glass or translucent plastic, distinguish an empty background from the material’s own transparency and reflections. Removing every pale pixel can erase part of the product. Keep the untouched photograph available and use careful masking or a new real capture when the edges cannot be made truthful.

Plan the garment layers to capture — Keep real neckline and interior evidence for a hollow-garment composite.

03

Export for the actual destination

Use a format that supports alpha when the next design step needs a layer. JPEG has no alpha channel. When the final destination needs a finished background, flatten onto that background in an editor and inspect the resulting file.

Destination behavior matters: Etsy’s image guidance does not support transparent PNG listing images and warns that transparent regions can appear black. Fayvoro’s scene generator is a different deliverable; it does not promise cutout, mask, transparent export, or preservation of every source pixel. If you want a reviewed scene, start with the photo after deciding it is the right job.

A readable glassware reference — A transparent background and a transparent material are separate problems; preserve the actual glass outline first.

Deliverable chooser

Decide what your
next editor needs.

Transparent surroundingsThe chosen background shows around the diagram.
Opaque white surroundingsThe white rectangle stays white on every background.

These are teaching diagrams drawn in the browser, not cutouts, real product photos, or Fayvoro outputs. Use the same light/dark comparison on your actual export to inspect its edges.

Prepare a real cutout with alpha in a dedicated editor.

Keep a master, check light and dark backgrounds, and export the alpha channel. Fayvoro’s finished scene is a different deliverable.

Direction to try

A useful starting note.

Use this as a starting point, then adjust it for your own product. No prompt can guarantee exact product details.

Create one finished scene from my uploaded product reference, with the whole item visible on a simple surface in soft light. I want a composed background, not a transparent cutout. Avoid props crossing the product edges.
Before you publish

Check the details.

  • The requested deliverable is a layer, a flattened white image, or a finished scene.
  • A cutout has been checked on light and dark backgrounds.
  • Holes, thin edges, reflections, and transparent material remain truthful.
  • The exported format and final destination support the intended background behavior.
Common questions

A few things to know.

Does PNG always mean the background is transparent?

No. PNG supports transparency, but a PNG may contain only opaque pixels. Check the actual exported image in an editor with transparency support.

Can Fayvoro remove a background and export a cutout?

The current studio generates a finished image from a photo reference or description. It does not offer a guaranteed transparent cutout or an editable mask.

Can I use a cutout as an Etsy listing photo?

Do not upload it with transparent regions. Etsy says transparent PNG listing images are unsupported and can appear black. Flatten the image and meet the listing’s real-photo requirements.
